Editor’s Note: While we are focusing on the topic of “Angels and Demons” in worship this week, we are also celebrating Sue Steege’s 30th Anniversary at First Trinity. We asked Sue to write the announcements article as part of the celebration. You can read her article below the sermon audio.

So teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom. -Psalm 90:12

My dad died at 52 and was just coming up on his 25th anniversary with the 3M Company. I remember thinking that was a LONG TIME to work for one company. And here I am, 30 years serving at First Trinity. Hard to get my arms around it.

I was so young and inexperienced 30 years ago. God has been gracious in helping me learn and grow and mature (and that process is still going on!). If I were to point to the “constants” in these 30 years, it would be God’s Word (I am more in love with it than ever) and relationships (my very favorite gift from God). The ministry teams and staff people that I have been privileged to serve alongside are of great joy to me. I have been gifted with lifelong friendships here. I absolutely love this congregation and the people, past and present, who are part of it.

For me, the only posture towards these years is gratitude. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Blown away by it. So many gifts in this community of faith. First Trinity is not perfect (no church is), but God’s Spirit clearly lives and moves among us. I love that this ministry has been present in Western New York for 175 years. It is not about one pastor or DCE or a beautiful building or anything else except God and His desire to reach people with His love and salvation. First Trinity, by God’s grace, has been present long before any of us were on the scene, and by His grace He will continue to use this congregation for His purposes for many years after we’re gone.

Which means, here at this 30 year milestone for me, I can only point to our great God. Let’s celebrate Him. Let’s rejoice in what He can do. Let’s ask where He’s calling us, next. Jesus is working all around us, everyday. Let’s find out what He’s up to and see if we can join Him!

With much love in my heart,

Susan Steege, Director of Transformation Ministry
