Spirit of Worship

My first position as a Director of Christian Education was in Texas. It was a wonderful church to start my ministry in, but it wasn’t without some challenges. One of the biggest issues we struggled with at that church was worship styles. They had been doing contemporary worship for a while there, but it was only allowed on Saturday evenings in the gym, not in the worship center. Some in the church thought there was no place for contemporary worship,…

Equipped and Ready

Lots of work goes into a family vacation. We went to the Outer Banks a couple years ago. The planning started at least six months prior to departure. We had to figure out who all from the extended family was going. How many rooms do we need? What houses are available that meet our needs? Do we need a pool? How is food going to work? After the initial group planning, you have your own planning and packing. What do…

Preschool Renovation

We are excited about what God is doing in our Preschool! Throughout the vision process, we heard how people felt the Preschool was a powerful ministry at First Trinity for reaching children and families in our community. We had been praying for God’s direction for the next steps for the school. We thought expansion would be possible for the 2016-2017 year, but God had a quicker timetable! When registration opened for existing families this year, we immediately filled our 4-year-old…

A People of Prayer

We prayerfully understand who God has created us to be and where the Spirit is calling us to make a difference, both individually and corporately. We are a people of prayer. Everything we do is bathed in prayer, including understanding our calling as His people in this world. When the disciples prayed, God spoke and told them who to set apart and where to go. They prayed and the room shook and they were filled with boldness to share the…

Created for a Purpose

One of the key learnings from Financial Peace University is that you “spend your monthly income on paper, on purpose, before the month begins.” If your money doesn’t have a purpose, you’re more likely to spend it haphazardly instead of with a goal or destination in mind. Life is that way. If you live life without a purpose, you’re more likely to “spend” your life in meaningless, inconsequential ways. In the Bible, we often see God call people to a…

Honor Your Mother

Our youngest child has reached a dangerous age. She recently discovered that she is a pretty good climber. It started with a small plastic chair, but has spun out of control to climbing on boxes, the couch, kitchen and dining room chairs, and even onto tables if you don’t stop her. She’s always so proud when she makes it onto a chair or box. She stands up and wants everyone to clap for her to celebrate this great accomplishment. She’s…

Middle School Retreat Update: Part 2

This is the second in a series of three guest posts by Haley, a sixth grade student that went on the Middle School retreat in March. I asked her to share her experience at the retreat. You can read part 1 here. DAY 2: Oh Boy! Day two, well, let’s just say it was very entertaining!!! All right, so we got up ate breakfast, (which by the way was super good) and then we went to Bible Study. At Bible…
