Florida Mission Trip – Day 5 Recap

“What an awesome week- full of pure joy, huge smiles, and lots of dance parties! GKTW empowers all of us to do everything we can to help families embrace every moment of their vacations. This morning I got to take pictures of kids meeting Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and my personal favorite, Belle. You should have seen the young boy who discovered that Mickey’s head feels the same as his slightly more than bald head! Of course, we’ve also been enjoying the beautiful Florida weather. Thanks to Jake, Jordy and I got to enjoy the pool in the backyard. Tonight I got to be an elf. Santa, an admitted Bills fan, taught us how to dab and in return we taught him how to have fake fun. ‘Twas a very merry night in the Village.” – Kelsey Trautwein

“This week has been such a whirlwind of experiences. It has been such a reminder to me of the power of constant hope and joy.

Today was our last day in the village, and I started the day with Abbie and Becky at Lori’s Magic Flight – an amusement park ride with flying butterflies. We enjoyed the sun in between rides! Following lunch, we were able to relax for a few hours in the backyard pool and playing telephone pictionary. During the evening, we volunteered during a longer shift for the evening Santa meet and greet and winter wonderland parade. We had a blast talking with the children and families who were waiting in line to see Santa. We also enjoyed many fun team moments, including “elfies” (selfies) and a dancing grumpy Papa Elf (Santa himself instructed Doug to be a grumpy elf)! We ended the night with a few last memories and pictures, as well as an encouraging time of debriefing and processing. It’s been a memorable final full day!” – Beth Honan
