Sunday Night Update from our Nepal Team

Pastor Chuck Whited and Director of Care Ministries, Marsha Peth have joined with some people from Eastern Hills Wesleyan Church and a UB Campus Ambassador on a mission trip to Nepal with Sowers Ministries, June 18 – 30.

Praise the Lord!  Another day in His blessing!

We began by meeting with a group of women who are fighting against human trafficking.   It is one of Nepal’s major problems, in addition to smuggling and drugs.   The city of Bhutwal where we are is close to the border of India, so it is a gateway for human trafficking.   Some girls are susceptible due to poverty or lack of education.  But many girls are sold by their own fathers or uncles to get money.  Our hearts were breaking as we heard of the tragedy of these girls’ lives. There are no government agencies working on the problem, so the pastors here have been rescuing girls and organizing others to help.  Robin gave the group some information on prevention and intervention of human trafficking and also restoration for girls after they are rescued.  We encouraged them with God’s Word, reminded them of their great value to God, and prayed over them.  Please pray for them too.  God’s protection for them, His power in them, and that Jesus will keep their hearts tender as they deal with the horrific things they will encounter.
Next we attended a graduation program for girls who had completed a five month training program in sewing in order to be able to earn a living.   We had the privilege of handing each girl a graduation certificate.   They have a new hope in Christ!
Late afternoon was shopping time!  Many of us enjoyed some free time to buy Nepali clothes and other souvenirs.  Lots of fun.
In the evening we had a worship and Bible study with a smaller group of believers, some who we met at the anti human trafficking meeting.  We met outside of a house in the country.  We feel as though we have made new friends in Nepal and there is a warmth and love that transcends cultural differences.  We are truly one family in Christ.   We have so much joy as together we worship, hear God speak in His Word and pray for one another.  Alleluia!
The Lord is good!  His mercies are new every morning!  Great is His faithfulness!

What amazing goodness and light our people are bringing to a dark world. I am so grateful for Pastor Chuck and Marsha Peth. As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b

Thank you for sharing so much of your mission with us – keeping all in prayer now and in the future – the need is great!
