It’s easy to get sidetracked or off-target when you consider the myriad possibilities that exist between you and your goal. Oftentimes it will take the form of “what if” questions. What if my underlying assumptions are wrong? What if my plan doesn’t work? What if I start down this path but can’t finish?
Sometimes “what if” questions paralyze us—but they can also energize us! What if I get that promotion at work? What if I spent more time investing in my child? What if I exercised more? We explore what our life would look like if we were successful and it actually helps us focus.
What if God had an exciting, over-the-top, amazing thing in mind for you? (Spoiler alert: He does!) God loves you more than anything else in His wonderful creation. He wants to bless you beyond belief. Sadly, we too often doubt God’s goodness and worry He’s going to punish us for not following Him more faithfully. What if I return to God and He says it’s too little too late?
Thankfully, God tells us otherwise in His Word:
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
God says that if we humble ourselves and return to Him, He will respond with healing and forgiveness. You don’t need to fear God’s vengeance anymore—He already punished Jesus in your place! He is inviting us to humbly seek His face and turn back to Him. God is waiting for you with open arms, ready to wrap you in a big hug and forgive all your sins and heal all your hurts.
We are God’s people, called by His name. He will not forsake you or abandon you. You are precious to Him! So let’s return to the God whose name we bear. After all, He’s waiting for us with healing and forgiveness.
