Homebound Visitor Training

We welcome you to become part of the Homebound Visitors team (formerly Project Compassion) who visit First Trinity homebound members and friends one hour a month to bring the love of Christ and the hand of friendship. Training is a total of 9 hours and facilitated by Jackie Stroh.

Training Dates

  • Session 1: Saturday, March 10 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Session 2: Saturday, March 17 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Session 3: A wrap-up session in June – Date to be announced.

Training Objectives

  1. To confirm God’s call to you to minister to the homebound in a distinctively Christian way.
  2. To learn the four basic elements of communication when relating and connecting in a care situation: Attention, Acknowledgement, Affection and Acceptance.
  3. To understand what is and is not expected of you in the Homebound Visitor role
  4. To clarify any questions and concerns you have about being a Homebound Visitor.

Session One

  • Welcome, Introductions and Review of Course Objectives
  • Differentiating Christian care giving from other care giving
  • Defining the role of and potential blessings to the Homebound Visitors
  • Introduction to the four elements of effective care communication:  attention, acknowledgement, affection and acceptance
  • Testimony from a First Trinity Homebound Visitor or Family of Homebound Member
  • Questions and Answers; Completion of registration
  • Prayer for Homebound members and class participants

Session Two

  • Welcome, Introductions and Review of Course Objectives
  • Video and discussion of four elements of effective care communication
  • Practical considerations of the Homebound Visitors
  • Praying with and for others; sharing your faith
  • Testimony from a First Trinity Homebound Visitor or Family of Homebound Member
  • Q and A; Completion of brief course evaluation
  • Assignment of Homebound Visitors to Homebound Members
  • Prayer for Homebound members and class participants

Session Three

  • Continental Breakfast
  • Welcome and Review of Course Objectives
  • Review of four elements by Homebound Visitors team
  • Debrief of Homebound Visitors experiences:  surprises, joys, frustrations,  questions
  • Voluntary sharing – How God is using your role as a Homebound Visitor to move you closer to Him
  • Q and A; Discussion of Homebound Visitors coaching
  • Prayer for Homebound members and class participants
