This is part of a series of posts about our new vision statement. Click here to see all of them so far.
The first line of our vision statement is:
First Trinity is a growing family who is passionate about our Lord Jesus Christ.
Remembering that this is five years out and looking at who we are, we are passionate about the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the core and center of all we do. Without Him we are nothing. Without Him we are just a social club and nothing more.
The Bible says, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 1 Peter 2:9
Imagine, we have been chosen by God. We did not chose Him, He chose you and me. He made us holy. That means we have been set apart for His service. To be holy means you are not for just any use. You are not for regular everyday use. You have been chosen for something special, something God has in mind, something spectacular, a divine purpose.
This is true of us as individuals and it is true of us as a church. Peter says we are chosen for a purpose, to proclaim the joy of belonging to Jesus. Jesus said the same thing in John 15. He said that not only did He choose us, but that He appointed us that we might go and bear fruit. We are looking at how we can be the church in the world, bearing fruit and telling people the good news of Jesus Christ.
Beloved, all God is really calling us to do is “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) He is just asking us to live our faith in the world. He is calling us to be His hands and feet in the world. He wants us to be the church in the world.
