Workcamp Sunday: Reframe

Workcamp Sunday: Reframe

We recently made a DIY air conditioner to beat the summer heat. We had a styrofoam cooler we weren’t using, so we looked up some plans and got to work. A quick trip to Target and Lowe’s got us the supplies we needed, and we soon had a makeshift air conditioner.

My son was fascinated by the transformation that took place. While it still looked like a cooler, it was actually much cooler (pun intended!) suddenly. There was a fan attached to it and PVC pipe coming out the top. It was familiar, and yet a completely new creation to him.

God is in the transforming business. We come to Him dirty, wounded, broken, and worse. But He chooses not to focus on our shortcomings or sin, but rather on what we can be in Jesus. He sees something new entirely:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Something happens when we come to know Jesus. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians that as we come to know Christ, we are transformed into something new. Something greater than we were. God in Christ Jesus makes us a new creation.

Our past sinfulness is wiped away, replaced with the righteousness of God. Not only does He transform us into a new creation, but He also gives us a new job, inviting us to join Him in telling others of this great transformation:

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21

God has transformed you into a new creation in Christ. And now He invites you to join Him in telling others of this wonderful news!
